Open studio memberships

Membership is designed for makers who are comfortable working independently and want consistent time and space to develop their ceramic practice.

Members have studio access for three, 3-hour timeslots per week, allowing for flexibility and the freedom to work around their own schedule. Whether you are continuing to build your skills, developing a body of work, or simply looking for more time with clay, open studio membership offers a supportive environment to keep practicing.

Open studio time is non-instructional. Members must be confident working on their own in a studio setting, including using equipment safely, managing their projects, and following studio procedures.

Who membership is for

Open studio membership is intended for ceramic artists who already have experience working with clay and are comfortable working independently.

This is a good fit for you if you:

- Have previous pottery experience
- Have completed the prerequisite classes at Dex Lab
- Can work safely and independently in a shared studio
- Understand the basic ceramic process
- Want more regular access to studio equipment and workspace
- Are looking for flexibility beyond a structured class setting
- Enjoy being part of a creative studio community

Membership eligibility

To be eligible to apply for open studio membership, students must complete a minimum of two 8-week class sessions at Dex Lab.

This requirement helps ensure that all members are familiar with the studio, equipment, materials, and expectations before working independently.

After completing two sessions, interested students may contact the studio to learn more about membership availability and the application process.
